EndCoat™ Wood Preservative

When building your outdoor project with pressure treated wood, it is important that you protect the cut ends of boards from termites and fungal decay. All cuts and holes that expose untreated wood should be liberally brush-coated with a Timber Specialties end cut preservative before the wood is installed.

For cuts in posts, deck boards and fence boards used above grade level, where appearance counts, we recommend the use of EndCoat™ Preservative. It's available in soft green, to closely match the colour of unfinished pressure treated wood, and brown to complement prestained pressure treated wood.

For exposed cuts in posts, beams and joists in ground contact, we recommend GreatWood™ End Cut Preservative. This dark green preservative was formulated for heavy-duty use in preserved wood foundations.

As a general guide, a 10 by 12-foot deck will normally require one 500 ml can of GreatWood™ End Cut Preservative for the substructure and one 500 ml can of EndCoat™ Wood Preservative for deck boards, railings and any other trim.

Use a small disposable bristle or sponge brush to apply the preservative. Liberally brush coat the exposed untreated surface with the preservative as supplied; do not dilute. Mix thoroughly and stir frequently during application. Do not apply to wood on any surface where prolonged skin contact may occur or which may come in contact with food or drinking water. Clean up with mineral spirits, then with detergent and water.
